What Kind of Dance?
Our classes promote American Style Social Ballroom Dancing. Our goal is to help you and your partner learn Rhythm, Smooth, and Contemporary dance steps while developing your skills, technique and connection with each other. We do not teach competitive dancing, flips, drops, or aerials which require more advanced and in-depth training. (We can refer you to good instructors if you have higher aspirations.)
The internet offers much information on the subject of dance styles and we encourage everyone to do some research before choosing a style to learn. Before choosing a place to learn, it is important to consider the “look” you hope to achieve in classes and "how" you want to learn. Some studios require you to constantly rotate dance partners. While we do not require members to rotate around the room, we do encourage you to try it. We will not pressure you to do so. The more people you dance with, the faster you learn.
Formal Ballroom is a BIG “look”, an attention getter, and (in our opinion) teaches you how to “steal” the floor from other dancers to attract the most attention. Instruction is generally more detailed and technical.
Social Ballroom is a COMMON “look”, an elegance between you and your partner, and (again, in our opinion) teaches you how to look your best and share a smaller dance floor with other dancers. Instruction is generally less technical and adaptive to each couple's ability.
